What are "net carbs?"Updated 15 days ago

Net carbs refer to the carbohydrates in a food that your body actually digests and uses for energy. They're the carbs that can impact your blood sugar levels.

To calculate net carbs, you subtract certain types of carbs that don’t significantly affect blood sugar, like fiber and sugar alcohols, from the total carbohydrates.

Here's the basic formula:

Net Carbs = Total Carbohydrates – Fiber – Sugar Alcohols (if applicable)

Why are these excluded? Fiber and sugar alcohols aren’t digested or absorbed by the body in the same way as other carbs. So, they don’t impact blood sugar level, and the energy intake they provide is dramatically less than traditional carbohydrates..
