What is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (RDBPC) clinical study?Updated 2 months ago

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (RDBPC) clinical study is a type of study that is considered to be the “gold standard” of scientific experiments in humans. This study design provides the strongest clear evidence that the supplement is causing the results.

  • Randomized means that the study participants are randomly assigned to one of the conditions (e.g., supplement or placebo).

  • Double-blind means that neither the study participants nor the researchers are aware of the condition to which the participants are assigned. In other words, neither the participants nor the researchers know if a participant is receiving a supplement or placebo. This reduces the potential for bias.

  • Placebo-controlled means that one group is receiving the "active" treatment (i.e., supplement) while another group is receiving an inactive "placebo," which is specifically designed to not have an effect.
