What is krill?Updated 8 months ago

Krill are tiny crustaceans. Thus, they are in the same family as shrimp, and they kind of look like clear crawfish. Krill oil (derived from krill) is very rich in antioxidants, particularly the very potent antioxidant Astaxanthin. Because of its high concentrations of the free radical scavenger and its modest concentration of EPA and DHA, krill oil became very popular. However, the Omega-3 content of krill oil is typically very low relative to fish oil. Thus, we package krill oil with fish oil to get the best of both worlds: Antioxidant power PLUS anti-inflammatory Omega-3 fatty acids, respectively. Krill feed on a variety of plankton and algae, which also makes them a somewhat suitable source of these very same Omega-3 fatty acids, albeit significantly less than salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies.
