Do we identify how many servings of fruits and vegetables are in one serving of MetaboGreens?Updated 8 months ago
Because of the lack of scientific support (for the use of ORAC), we do not make any claims surrounding the ORAC value of MetaboGreens nor do we make any fruit and vegetable equivalency claims.
Many brands selling greens/superfood powders often say that their product is equivalent to a certain number of servings of fruits and vegetables. This extrapolation is based on something called Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC), which attempts to quantify the antioxidant of a food/supplement by placing a sample of it in a test tube. The reality, however, is that ORAC is no longer readily accepted. For example, the USDA no longer references ORAC values for foods for the following reasons:
“[ORAC] values indicating antioxidant capacity have no relevance to the effects of specific bioactive compounds, including polyphenols, on human health.”
“ORAC values are routinely misused by food and dietary supplement manufacturing companies to promote their products and by consumers to guide their food and dietary supplement choices.”
