What is the breakdown of total carbohydrates in BioTrust Low Carb?Updated 3 months ago

The FDA requires that the following are listed (if they are included):

  • Total carbohydrates

  • Fiber (non-digestible carbohydrates)

  • Sugar (mono- and disaccharides like glucose, fructose, lactose, and sucrose)

Each two-scoop serving of BioTrust Low Carb contains 8 grams of total carbohydrate, and 4 grams of "net carbs," which are calculated by subtracting the amount of fiber from total carbs. Net carbs are calculated because dietary fiber does not elevate blood sugar levels (it actually helps lower/regulate blood sugar) or insulin levels.

Besides the 4 grams of fiber (from inulin, xanthan gum, gum arabic, and guar gum), BioTrust Low Carb contains 1 gram of naturally-occurring sugar (e.g., from milk proteins) per serving. The remaining 3 grams of carbohydrates are considered "other carbohydrates," which may more commonly be recognized as "complex carbohydrates," or more appropriately, non-fiber polysaccharides. Starches in foods like sweet potatoes, rice, oats, etc., are "other carbohydrates."
