What type of beta-casein does BioTrust Low Carb contain?Updated 3 months ago

BioTrust Low Carb contains both the A1 and A2 variants of beta-casein. Beta-casein proteins make up approximately 30% of the total protein of cows’ milk and may be present as one of two major genetic variants: A1 and A2, the two primary types of beta-casein (although there are others present). Either or both of these types may be expressed in cows’ milk depending on the individual cows’ genetic makeup. Cows may be homozygous for one type, or heterozygous with allelic co-dominance resulting in both types being expressed in milk.

For instance, cows that are homozygous for the A2 genotype contain only the A2 beta-casein type (i.e., no A1 beta-casein). Purebred Asian and African cattle produce milk containing only the A2 beta-casein type, although some cattle presenting phenotypically as Asian or African cattle may produce A1 beta-casein as a consequence of crossbred ancestry. Milk containing only the A1 beta-casein type is not commercially available for consumption; generally speaking, the majority of commercially available milk products contain a mixture of both the A1 and A2 beta-casein types unless specifically marketed as “A2 milk.”
